School Girl's Intellegent mind

School Girl's Intellegent mind

: A school girl catch a Thief

The wall-clock chimed twelve times. Kiran looked up from the book she was trying to read and rubbed her eyes. ‘May be I should stop now,’ she thought . ‘ I feel sleepy’.

She had done math the previous night and geography the night before and hand managed to stay up till one o’clock.

‘history,’ she muttered. Trust history to induce sleep.

On a bed next to hers, kalpana, her sister was snoring gently. She’s lucky, kiran felt. She doesn’t have to forego a good night’s slumber for a boring subject.

The chapter on ‘Imperialism in Asia and Africa’ looked particularly formidable. She was wondering how to memorise all those Japanese and Chinese names without mixing them up when her eyes fell upon the flask her mother had thoughtfully placed by her bedside.

Ah’ a glass of cocoa is just what I need to deal with Chinese and Japanese imperialism, she decided.

Then standing by the open window in her bedroom she poured herself a glass of the tasty drink. As she stood sipping it, she instinctively looked at her friend seem’s house, which was on the other side of Gandhi street.

At first she thought nothing of the light that came from one of its windows but soon it struck her as very odd, for seema’s family had gone to Coimbatore to attend her cousin’s marriage. They were coming back only the next day. Had they changed their plans and returned earlier? She decided to find out. On an impulse she dialed seema’s cellphone number instead of land line. Seema picked up the phone after several rings. Hello kiran, she said sounding a trifle irritated. Why are you calling me at this odd hour?

Just wanted to find out if you were back, kiran replied. Saw a light burning in your house.

We are still at Coimbatore, her friend said. How can a light be on? I remember switching off all the lights myself before we left.

It’s probably a burglar, then, kiran told her grimly. Inform your parents as calmly as you can. I’ll get the police immediately.

She hurried to the window to see if the light was still on. To her chagrin, the house was completely dark now. Had the burglar gone away? The thought made her panicky.

But just as she was turning away from the window she saw a light coming on in seema’s bedroom. The burglar was probably planning to check out all the rooms and take away everything he found valuable. He’s greedy, seema realized. But his greed is going to help me.

Kiran then hurried to wake her parents up. Within no time, they called the police and all the neighbours whose phone bumbers they knew. When seema’s father called them, they were able to assure him that the thief wouldn’t be allowed to get away. Time and again, kiran checked to see if the light in seema’s house was on. She was glad that the burglar was taking his time to loot the the house.

When finally he did emerge from within, a big party comprising of the police and the neighbours was waiting for him.

The police officers complimented Kiran.

Thanks to this girl. We were able to prevent a crime, they said.

It seemed to Kiran that her neighbours wouldn/t tire of speaking about her quick-wittedness and her presence of mind.
